I have 1986 Horizon 190 with V-6 (4.3 ltr?). There is a definite water leak coming from the fanbelt area. When running, it sprays water up and all over the engine. Does this engine have a water pump on the engine like a car does? Also I am told that this is a 170 HP V-6 4.3 liter. Is that correct? Thanks for the assistance! |

Yes, the water pump is on the engine, same as an automotive 4.3L V6. Pretty easy to change it out. HP, not sure, but in our 1989, the 4.3L V6 was rated at 180 hp. |

the pump may look the same but you have to use a marine unit...they're not expensive and it's a pretty easy job...an auto pump would be OK only if you had closed cooling with antifreeze w/corrosion inhibitors running through the block...not with raw water cooling... |

I meant the LOCATION is the same as on an automotive engine. You should buy a marine water pump, but automotive will work in a pinch, for about 1/4 the price. But it won't last as long as a marine grade. I got 4 years out of an autozone pump I put on our old Sea Ray, was still working just fine when we sold it. It's the same pump as a 1962 Chevy 262 ci V8. $26.00. Just relaying a story from the past. Get the marine grade pump for piece of mind. |

Always go for a marine one as the marine grade pump has a stanless steel impeller and shaft in it. Stock auto one is presed tin that will last around one season in salt water before it rots away! ![]() |

Believe it or not I have the OE pump on mine...22 years old and at least half of that is in salt water...so the marine pumps really do last...unlike the starters which if they get any salt water leaking on them (and the water drain from the manifold on a 4.3 is right above the starter) rust like mad... |

Thanks all for the advice. Looks like a marine grade water pump it is. I'll be back posting for some more advise! |
