Hey everyone, got the boat out last weekend for its first voyage and had issues with it stalling out. Boat ran great without a rider in tow but would stall out while pulling a rider out of the hole at around 4000RPM. I’m thinking it’s just stale gas as I winterized the boat with a full tank with fuel stabalizer run though it. I’m going to sifen out the remaining gas for some fresh stuff but just wondering if there’s anything else I should look at. Thanks for the help. Regards James. |

Fuel filter? |

I would think that the boat should stall whether you are pulling a rider or just giving full throttle from rest... Can we assume the engine is fuel injected? |

I'd look at refilling your boat with fresh gas that has no ethanol in it. I've read ethanol can soak up up an amazing amount moisture in a short period of time, and your gas has been around for some time. Check out this thread for sources of gas without ethanol: http://www.smwebhead.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5364 |

I'd run the gas through as much as possible (a 180 should have a fairly small tank), change the fuel filter and fresh go-juice. Given the boat is that new, probably not anything too complicated. If it still does the same after, then have the dealer look at the fuel pump, and go from there. I've never had issues with ethanol/water absorbsion (knock on wood) and most of our gas in Mo contains ethanol, and I do store with a full tank to minimize air/condensation during storage. For the record, I do change the fuel filter every year. Fiberglass tanks all but require it. |

I too store my boat for the winter....6 months.....with a full tank (with stabil) and never have had this problem. I change my fuel filter yearly as well. |

Thanks guys for the help. Ya I'll start by changing out the fuel filter and a new tank of gas and go from there. Regards James. |

I had the same problem last summer. It turned out to be water in the gas. I ended up pouring in 2 pints of the super concentrated Stabil for boats and it cured the problem. What happens is that when you hit the throttle the boat tilts and the fuel pickup sucks the water and stalls. Water is heavier than fuel so it sinks to the bottom and gets sucked in first. You can either dump a bunch of stabil in or siphon and replace with new fuel. Hope it works out for you Rob |
