I recently went up to a 240 Horizon from a 200 Horizon. I noticed when I'm pulling a tube and going into tight turns, especially to port, that the boat slows and the RPM increases until I straighten out. This make me lose momentum. I've tried to tilt the drive to various angles but no luck. It is actually best when I have the drive all the way down. I never experience this with the 200 Horizon. Any thoughts?

How hard do you want to make turns? Sounds like your prop is cavitating badly...
Which drive and prop do you have? .... I have a feeling that you have a SX or Blavo 1 single prop....
I used have a H240 with SX drive and they are very sensitive with prop change especially for towing... I switched to Merc Revolution 4 (with VP hub) prop and boat performed very different. Also I put Trim tabs which helped me a lot as well...
Let us know more detail.... May be 230 Mike can help since he is the "expert" on H230/240 :D

Thanks for the response. I should have given some detail from the get go. I did suspect cavitation. I have the Bravo 1 350 Mag, 19 pitch 3 blade prop. I've loaded the boat differently and have gone out with more and less riders so I've had different weight on board. I'm taking my turns as I was used to with my 200 Horizon to swing the tube out. I had the same issue with my original prop (19p SS) when I would turn hard. I knew it was from cavitation, and worked my way toward the Hi-five 21p I am running now. With a moderate load I can run WOT through VERY hard turns and never get below 35 mph by GPS. I top out at at 49-52 depending on load. Not to mention I get much improved hole-shot as well as very good control in the mid speed/throttle range.

Another thing worth checking is your prop hub... a one piece insert seems to slip less than the two piece. I don't know if the hub itself could be slipping, or other contributing factors.

I get a little of the same thing, though it doesn't sound like I get it as badly. If I make "moderate sharp" turns I don't lose anything, but if I make "really sharp" turns I do fall off a little. The further up the trim is set at the time of the turn, the greater the loss. I've found (at least with the DualProp) that the effective trim range is quite small on the 240.

I'm confused-are we talking about cavitation or ventilation here with the prop? This seems more like ventilation to me.

I have the same thing with my Bravo III, which surprised me a bit. It takes a relatively sharp turn, though. Never had the problem pulling a tuber and that does require some sharp turns. Sounds like a different prop would help, after you verify that the hub is good of course.

I agree that ventilation would be the correct term. I'm going to check the hub first and then consider a prop change. Would you suggest the revolution 4 prop and if so what pitch do you recommend? I'm currently running and 15 x 19" stainless 3 blade.

They are right… It is a ventilation issue… Rev 4 has so called PVS (Performance Vent) System that you can fine adjust vent of prop…. I am not sure which drive ratio you have on your Blavo 1 but it should be 19” or 21” should work for you.
