Post subject:  Engine Flush

Hi all,
I have just bought a 2006 Horizon 200 with Merc 4.3L MPI engine.
I did not receive the engine owners manual, and use the boat in a pretty salty environment.
What is the best procedure to use to water flush the engine after use. ( I have Muffs)
Thanks :?

Muffs will work fine. You just need to run the engine long enough for the thermostat to open and then 5 minutes longer. A flush kit that will allow you to flush both sides of the engine (block and exhaust) without running the engine will save you time, water and fuel.

If you look in your engine compartment you will see a freshwater flush attatchment on the starboard side. It has a blue cap on it with an h2o symbol. You can unscrew that cap and hook a hose to it. I use "salt away" to flush the salt water out of my engine. You do this with the engine running. I had an '06 180 Horizon and it came stock with this attatchment and my '06 210 did too. I'm sure yours does. Both engines were Volvos.

You need to flush the motor on muffs until it comes to operating temp and then about 5 minutes longer. It would take me 1 hour to flush my engines as well as a bunch of water and gas. I installed a MST Guardian flush system on each engine. I figured that they would pay for themselves in less than 2 years between water and gas. Not to mention the time to flush went from ~1 hr to 10 minutes.
