Graham, If your out there, I have a leak a the bolts here http://www.marinepartseurope.com/fi/vol ... -9972.aspx they are the bolts the hold the retainer on, number 5 on the drawing, two bolts go into the pump, when I trim the outdrive all the way up, the bolts leak for some reason, i took the reatiner off and tightened them and it did not leak when trimmed all the way up, I dont know if I need the reatiner plate, going on a trip in a week and need some answers. Mike, I have no experience with the later drives I'm afraid. It would be very unusual to have tapped holes for mounting screws breaking into the hydraulics, I'd have expected them to be "blind" holes, so I wouldn't expect the screws themselves to be the actual source of the leak.. Looking at the diagram, that retainer plate does something with regard to where the 4 hydraulic hoses enter the pump. What does it actually do? Are the hose ends screwed into the pump, or does the retainer hold them in place? When in place, could it actually be putting offset pressure on some of the hoses/ hose ends, causing one or more to leak slightly; they are sealed with little O rings. If they are screwed in, have you tried tightening the hose ends? Sorry I can't be of any more help. Graham |

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4316&p=42874#p42874 I had a simmular problem with my 2007. I had to bring it back to the dealer. The SX out drives have problems ith the O rings. No matter how much I tighted it they would leak. dealer fixed it. I am probably not much help.... |

What did you tighten down, the retaining bolts? I know the hoses have orings and I am guessing that the retainer cover is what keeps the hoses intact, as a last ditch effort I put a significant amount of blue loctite on the treads of the two reatiner screws, let it set for a few days and today I trimmed the drive all the way up with no leaks, after my trip I will take it to the local FW dealer and have them take a look see. Thanks for listening guys. Mike |

If your drive is a SX-A, And not just an SX, Then try having a look at this thread to see if it can be of any extra help to you. Good luck. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=405087 |

That's interesting, but quite scary! Not having blind holes for the mounting bolts ( in the photo bronze or brass inserts are clearly seen, they could easily have used blind ones). Also, glued in plugs. Graham |
