I can't turn the engine over. Battery is fine. I suspect the nuetral safety switch or perhaps the control cable needs adjustment. How does one adjust the cable? Any thoughts? BTW, it's a 1998 RS. Thanks!

The neutral safety switch is in the shifter assembly. If you remove the shifter or panel it's attached to you can bypass the neutral safety switch (please, only to test if that's the problem). A far as I am aware there's no adjustment on the cable to make the safety switch OK or not OK.

Thanks Graham. I attempted to inspect the shifter assembly but only got as far as removing the plastic cover and a few screws. Do I need a puller to remove the shifting handle mechinism? Otherwise it looks like I have to remove the whole padded upholstery attached to the gunwale. Argh!

There's a clipped on cover on the lever which incorporates the gear disengage button. Once removed, you should see a hex bolt head. Once removed, the lever should pull off, unless there's some corossion. Even when removed, you'll not see a lot.

The trim panel on my boat is held on by only 2 screws on the lower edge. Once removed, the whole panel lifts upwards off some brackets.
