Well the trim pump gave out on the second day I was at Lake Ouachita five hours from the house, needless to say I was not happy especiall for my family we did get to go out all day Monday but a storm chased us in at about 4 pm, the pump was so messed up and leaked so bad, I had to go to a local Tractor supply and get a rachet strip to get the trim up all the way to get it home, what a total piece of crap, guess I'll need a new one, what a POS. Off to the dealer....oh yea it not under warranty go figure. Mike |

Hello, I just recently had the trim pump go out on my 2008 H203. Do you have an SX-A outdrive with the "integrated" trim pump? I was able to get warranty coverage on the replacement and the labor. Seems to be a weak link in what would be an a very good outdrive. |

Uh oh. No problems yet, but I too have an 08' SX drive. I sure hope this isn't a sign of things to come! ![]() |

As they say " SH*T Happens!" If you are worried about the cost, go buy a replacement pump and install it yourself. You will get intimate with your boat and learn all kinds of stuff as you crawl around and contort yourself to reach all the bolts/screws and hose lines. You will see your engine from a whole different perspective. It may have ruined your weekend but think of all the past ones and all the future ones too come and just keep smiling. |

Did you have the lovely issue of your outdrive slowly coming down if left up over night? I hope this isn't something I need to be looking at as well. |

Well it started leaking slowly out of the little white plug on the side, I got that stopped. Them it started leakingout of the bolts that holds the retainer plate on, then it just got worse and worse, I pulled it out of the lake cause I was shooting oil into it and I felt like BP, the pump just finally gave up when the little white plug shot out and the trim would not move and drained the reat of the resevior onto the parking lot. Very shotty design. Mike |

I can tell you that I have had issues too...but not fluid leaking out. The trim pumps are the weak link of that drive, even admitted to me by my dealer and they were told that by Volvo directly. Bad news is they are around $500.00 from what I was told. |

There must be a way of using an earlier (within boat) SX type trim pump with the rams on the SX-A. An opportunity for an aftermarket kit? Graham |

I agree Graham, that would be the best way, I cant figure out why they messed with a tired and true system, spoke to the dealer today, will have a pump by Tuesday 675.00 and 180.00 for labor to put it in, was going to do it myself but with the issues, I'll let the dealer take the hit next time. |

Mike....for future reference (knock on wood and hope I don't need it), what exactly did you have to do to manually raise the drive? |

Well since the was no oil in the system, I put a wide ratchet strap with the small towel under it as to not cut the strap or scratch the drive and cranked the strap until the drive was all the way up, then I put a smaller second one around it for security, cause I didnt want to loose the scag because I relied on one strap, worked like a champ on a five hour drive home. I'm not sure what the advantage was of putting the trim pump on the transom mount instead of leaving it in the boat as has been the case on every other I/O (including Volvo's past ones) other than not having trim lines to go through the transom mount... I'm not crazy about some aspects of Volvo's recent products this being one and the now discontinued OSI drive being another...they are advertising their new Ocean-X salt water drive which looks interesting but I still think that I'd get an outboard next time to make things easier... They really should offer an extended warrantee on this pump seeing as how it's had a higher than normal rate of failure... Still have the original 22 year old pump on the old OMC... $700 trim pumps and $500 fuel pumps for FI engines...I'll stick with my old OMC....looks like they are trying to garantee lots of $$ made on replacement parts... |

Wonderful - I have no clue what is on my boat, but I'm sure its the bad one...i need to check out the trim pump i recon. I just assumed the pump was inside the boat, but guess not based on this thread. Did they use other model pumps in 2008? I do have the VP drive and luckily got the 5 year warranty. |

If you are looking at the rear of the boat/drive, its on the right side of the drive unit. Very small, and you will see a plug where you would fill/check fluid levels.....mine is the same unit. While I have not had leakage at any lines, I have had my lower unit bleed down. The dealer (and Volvo) say its due to a bad check ball valve in the pump. This item was THE REASON I opted to get an extended warranty right before my original warranty went out. Its a known problem, with no real fix as of the last time I had it looked at (lasy year). My drive still leaks down slightly, about 1-2 inches over a weeks time, so not a big deal. When this season is over I will be taking it in for another one, lol. |

I would have never known since i store mine in down position anyway....i will check mine for any leaks. I would assume this is not a tough switch since it's outside the boat and easilty accessible.....of course that assumes the entire drive doesn't need to come out for the switch |
