I'm new to the board and I am in need of help. I have a 2002 190 Horizon and I am only getting 4100-4200 RPM WOT trimmed up. I have the stock prop 14.25 x 21 prop and it is stated to be 4400-4800 WOT. I am only getting 45 or so with 2 people and it would make sense that the extra 200-600 RPM's would get me to the normal 50 mph. Can anyone help me figure this out? The boat only has 120 hours on it, I just rebuilt the carb (had the problem prior), and it runs good. I'm just not getting the RPM/Performance that I think I should. Any suggestions? |

welcome to the forum! Around the lakes here in the Denver area (5280 - 6000) feet or so I get around 4200-4400 with a 19" prop. At lake Powell I can get in the 4600-4800 range but that's 3300 or so depending on water level. At Powell That put me around 47 with a small load and 3 guys. At lower elevation I've got her up to 52 with 2 people no gear and a tower on The boat. That was maybe 2000-2500 feet. Not sure what the rpms were at then. |

My understanding is that the 190H all came with 21 pitch. Maybe all I have to do is change to a 19? Have you ever run a 21? Thanks for the help! |

That seems like a lot of prop for that engine, 19 seems more realistic, I have a 5.0 GXi and I running a 19x14.75. |

I have seen 50 with the 21" prop. Not sure of the RPM's. I've used a 4-blade 19" the last 2 years. I get about 47 mph at 4500 RPM's. |

I only ran a 21 pitch for a short amount of time, and now run a 19 pitch and get 4800 rpm out of mine anyday. Have never seen 50 mph with it, I think the highest I saw was about 46 on gps. As a side note, used to run a 19 pitch stainless until it was stolen, and that ran perfect at 4800 RPM but now I am running a a Volvo Aluminum one and you have to be careful with the trim and everything at WOT as it will start to hit the limiter just under 5K RPM. With the 21 pitch, I don't really see why your boat shouldn't be hitting 45-4600 RPM. |

i only figured i had a 19 on (when buying it used) instead of a 21 or 20 was due to the altitude that I'm running at. i know when i go to my in-laws lake which is around 8500 feet mine 19 is a dooooooooog. i need a 17 for up there. sometimes here in the Denver area i could use a 17 as well for better performance but would really have to watch it at WOT. |

Long shot but there is no other explaination. The boat runs great or I would think it is a tune up issue or something... Thanks for the help on this guys! |

My 1993H had a 17in when I got it and it always seemed to never get all the rpm's it should. Then my brother was 'helping' me load it and ground an inch off of itand I had to get a new prop. The prop guy I found explained it to me: the 17in has a lot of power, like getting a skier up out of the water, a 19in has less power but more top end and the 21 even less power but more top end. I settled on the 19in and sure enough the engine sounds like it gets to full rpm now and it's a little faster. So what he told me has so far bore out. I was also gonna try the 21in but pretty happy with the 19. |
