Hi guys

I just bought a 2007 H190 with the 4.3 mpi. Is it possible to install one of these captains call exhaust systems on my boat? I would like to have side exhausts because of the swim platform. I just don't know what to buy and what is needed to do the job? Has anybody else done this to a 4.3 mpi?

Honestly it is probably a waste of money on a 4.3L. Do you want it just to make noise or are you going for a performance gain? I think all you going to do is make noise and don't get me wrong I love the sound of loud exhaust , but just don't think a 4.3L would sound all that great. Now a V8 is another story. I have a 454 with 4" through hull pipes straight out the back and IMO you can't beat that sound.

Your probably right that its a waste of money, but it would be sweet. I love my boat and I honestly don't need a V8 its fast enough, I would like to have the bad ass sound. I would use mufflers, at the moment it sounds like a lawn mower...lol these videos that gave me the idea:

I have to admit it sounds better than I thought it would.

As far as the sound goes it will be about the same as the sound you get when cranking the boat on the hose - a little louder but not that much louder - so that will give you an idea. really all your doing is throwing the exhaust above water line.....the side exhaust will carry over more sound into your cockpit area than the rear exhuast - at least while underway.

It is nice -if you plan on keeping that boat and enjoy it then go for it...that V6 isn't going to sound like any lawmower I have ever heard...

Hey gents

Well after much research on the web I have convinced myself that a 4.3 will never sound like a 5.7 :( (I can just hear your replies... I told u so dude...) but I thought since the 4.3 is based on the 5.7 minus 2 cylendars, both develop the same HP per piston and some parts are interchangable. Now that doesn't make it sound like a V8 obviously. Found this on another forum: "The reason your v6 doesnt sound like a v8 is because when a v8 engine is running, two cyllidars on the same side are pumping exhaust gasses into the header. On a v6, only one cyllindar is pumping exhaust through the header." not sure but could be the reason. On another forum they mention that the V6 has an even fireing order and V8 are odd fiering, again not sure how this would affect sound. I read on another forum that the 4.3 sounds like an airplane on full throttle. Doesn't really matter why, it just doesn't sound like a V8... sad but true.

Proof is in the puddin:

The idle on the 4.3 is very nice but then sounds like crap when reved up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txOeL6N8Qz0

Now this 5.7 engine sounds sweet all around: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UW9W_Z3Onwg

I hope this might help others that wonder if its worth installing Thru hull on a 4.3. Now I still love my H190 with a 4.3 MPI but I'm gonna put 2000$ on a rocking sound system instead.
Thanks

Thats why I have a loud stereo.....to overcome the sound of the exhaust....but my wife INSISTS on running with it open.
