Hi all,
I just returned from a 3 week vacation in Maine. My 2001 Horizon 180 (5.0 Volvo/Penta) ran great the whole time. :D Only had one instance of a squealing alternator....fixed with a shot of WD-40 and have a spare alternator on hand.
Last year I did all of the rountine service myself; engine oil and filter change, cap and rotor, fuel filter, coil, plugs, lubing of cables, and outboard oil. All of this was fairly easy.
This year I will do the same but was wondering if there is more I should look into. If there is more, how much work is involved and can I do it myself? I am very good with the inboard engine work but have never pulled an outdrive or worked on one. I have the SELOC manual as well.
Thanks for any help provided.
Rob

I would just add lubing the gimbal bearing and u-joints, which does require removal of the drive. It's not all that difficult. You can build a jig (or rack) to hold the drive as you pull it off. I built one from lumber and used my floor jack under it. Others here have done similar. The manual will guide you through the general process.

Hey Rob..

I did a little more my first year as I need to replace bellows since they had a tear.

This post has too much detail but may give some tips....I just posted my own notes.
