Post subject:  NEW INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FOR 94 Horizon
Anybody replaced the standard VDO cluster with individual gauges? My trim, fuel, and temp gauges have gone out. Volts, RPM, and speedo still work great. I would like to replace them and create a new dash. Don't know how much work it will be beyond the $150 for the gauges. Any thoughts? Thanks

I don't know if this is a direct replacement, but you might contact your dealer and have him look up part number 025-3119-01, or maybe something in that series. My dealer quoted me $400. It is a replacement panel that goes in where the old VDO cluster was. I'm still looking as the part number above fits the dash that curves around, while mine is smaller and only sits in the flat of the dash. (2000 Horizon). I don't know much yet as I'm just starting to look myself, but I really hate the thought of running a whole new set of wiring and I'm hoping this would allow the use of the old set of wires while still replacing that nefarious VDO clunker. I assume you don't want to use RAPAIR to fix the old dash?

When my gauges need replacement I'll try to find a custom auto guy that can point me to some custom "wood" dash material that I can use to cut to fit the boats dash area and then add a nice set of matched guages. Let us know how you make out.

Thanks for the item #. I would assume the Rapair version is the same "Automotive cluster" style. And if it's not exceptionally cheaper than the $400 - $600 I've been seeing for the replacement from Four Winns, there is no way I'd keep using it. I too would like to keep the same wiring I have in there now. I'm still looking though. :?

I like the auto dash thing. I'm just curious about the existing wiring. I guess I can pull the wire bundle apart and isolate which ones come from which sending units. Electrical is definitely not my favorite part of marine troubleshooting. :roll:

Well, I finally checked the sender, gauge, etc. for my fuel system and found it was just a faulty ground. :D
The trim gauge still doesn't work, but I can get by with learning the sounds of the trim motor to determine where the outdrive is trimmed. I've heard the sending units go out fairly regularly being underwater and all. Replacing the trim sender is definitely an off season project.
So, I guess I won't be replacing that auto-type cluster gauge..... Yet.

Oh yeah - the temp gauge is good now, too.
