Post subject:  Add trolling motor to H180 , any fish n ski boaters help

Looking to add a trolling motor to my 2008 H180. Looking at pics on the net, it appears the trolling motor mounts up on front.. I'd like to do the similar thing. Two questions. Is your canvas specially cut around the trolling motor? Any one have a close up pic of their trolling motor mounted to the front? There doesn't appear to be much 'room' for a mount before the boat 'curves' downward.
Thanks in advance,
Neil

Just in case you don't get any replies.....there are some good pictures of the bow of a 183 on the Four Winns website that might help you out.

I added a Minkota Edge 55lb to the front of my 18 foot Horizon. 55lb was the most for a 12V system. I think it was a 48" shaft.
They make a composite plate that mounts onto the boat - and then you can quickly take the trolling motor on and off using the adapter plate.
This does two things: you can utilize a standard cover; and remove the trolling motor when just joy riding.

The composite plate is relatively small and overhang was not an issue. To account for the front end boat curve - I stacked a combination of washers/rubber spacers to the front two screws to get the unit level. It turned out to be a sturdy installation. No problems at all over the last two years.

Great advice.. exactly what I want to do.... The composite plate, did it come with the unit or did you purchase it separately? The curve of the boat was also a concern.. you resolved by washers/spares. Did you run the power wire to the 'dashboard' cigarette lighter plug (and it goes away when you disconnect your Edge) or did you run a separate line to the front of the boat?
