Post subject:  Battery Overheating ?

I have a 1986 19 ft. 4-Winns bowrider with v-6 and just recently put in a new battery (marine). On my last run, the boat just quit and would not turn over. I found the battery (+ side) terminal partially melted with the cables very hot. No problem noted on the voltage gauge (13v) and all other electronics appeared to be working well.
Could there be a problem with the battery internally shorting out?
Anyone out there that would be able to help, please respond. Thanks in advance.
Terry

Has it always worked fine till the new battery? If so take the battery back. If its the first time u had a battery in it, what size wire? and have your alternator tested. (did I spell alternator correct?)

I agree, it sounds like a defective connection inside the battery where the terminal attaches to the plates.
