I apologize if this has been answered. I’ve searched the forum and didn’t see it though. I’ve recently bought a 2007 H200 with the Mercruiser 5.0 TKS. It’s my first boat and I’m still new to things. I plan to keep the boat in the water all season (I’m on the east coast so we’re talking Apr/May thru Sept/Oct). When I bought the boat, the dealer gave me the flush muffs, but I don’t see how these are going to work when I keep it in the water. I’ve been looking for an in-water solution but can’t seem to find some. Do the flush muffs work for an in-water boat or do I need to look at something else. Surely someone has experienced this situation and I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks |

Unless we're talking about some special type of muffs I've never heard of, those bad boys are hooked to a garden house for out-of-water use. I suppose that if you have a lift at your dock you could lift it and use a hose to flush with the boat on the lift-assuming it gets the boat high enough to get the outdrive out of the water. You don't want to run the lower unit up very far with the trim just to get it out of the water so you can hook up the muffs, though. When you run it out of the water on the muffs, the lower unit should be all the way down or as close to all the way down as you can get it so that you are not putting strain on the u-joints or bellows. |

Here's a related topic regarding flushing techniques: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6828 Not sure if you have a hose connection to be able to flush the block on your setup. I kept my boat in a slip over the summer and used this in-place of the ear muffs. When on the trailer, I stick with the ear muffs. Not sure how much what Evil said would apply to your Merc application. To my limited knowledge, not many Mercs (if any?) offer that hose hookup flush option that the Volvos do. I could be wrong on that one, but I'm only speaking from a personal observation level and I've never seen a Merc with it. I'm sure they exist; if they do I just haven't personally seen them. Which Merc setup do you have? |

The Volvo flush set up is a T piece in the water inlet hose, just before the impeller. The same set up would also work I'm sure on a Mercruiser with a Bravo drive. The Apha drive has the impeller in the outdrive, so it wouldn't work ( if the engine was running, the impeller would be pumping in sea water). Graham |
