Hi all,

I have a new 2010 H190 and want to install a second battery, has anyone done this? If so where is the best place to put it? Does anyone have a stock second unit? Where did Fourwinns put it?

Thanks

yes i ordered a second one, not sure if it was installed by the dealer or factory. it's next to the primary one with the switch on the bulk head just forward of it. they did a nice neat job.

Mine came with a single.....last winter I installed a battery switch and 3 stage charger near the battery (starboard side). I will be installing the 2nd battery on the port side to equalize the weight. It takes more wiring, but makes accessing the batteries easier for my set up.

If you go this way, you will need a heavier gage wire for the longer run. Each boat is different in the way the weight is distributed and it may not matter on yours. I would think if your single is on port side then putting two over there may not be an issue at all. If yours is on starboard side then added weight may cause you to list a little. If it's just me and admiral on board - i weigh about 100 lbs more than her - add another 80 lbs for two batteries then i got 180 lbs to starboard already.

A forum search on here should turn up some posts around this. There is some good information from prior posts that will give you some quick results.

My second battery in on the port side, primary on starboard.

I added a second battery to my '88 Horizon some years back, the primary one was on the starboard side, I put the 2nd one on the port side to balance out the weight plus this boat always listed slightly to starboard anyway. Keep in mind that you will have to upsize the batt cable significantly, the run from my batt switch to the 2nd batt, is 9 feet for that cable, and 3 feet from that batt to the ground on the engine, for a total of 12 feet. The cable has to be sized for the total length of the run, including the ground return. My primary cables are 2 gauge wire but the long one is 1/0 I think, much thicker. I have used Deka gp 27 batteries for the last 3 years and they hold a charge better than other batteries I have used. If you run new cables, make sure to use tinned marine cable not the automotive kind, it will not hold up. I also used automotive style but tinned clamps on the terminal ends at the batteries, they are more secure than using wingnuts.

My H183 has 2 batteries installed from factory. I can post some pics if you like. They are both on the Starboard side.

I did it on mine. Mounted under the rear port side seat. Here is a link to the thread that I posted on. I did not run the cable in front of the engine as the picture shows (I was measuring). I ran it along the transom. Pretty easy job.

As promised FINALLY. Its a really ugly wiring job. Very messy. I've cleaned it up a bit but I don't like it still.
