Hi guys I am a new guy here and I am close to pulling the trigger on a 96 170 Horizon fish and ski with a 96 115 evinrude on it. Just wondering if anyone on the site runs a similiar boat and what kind of performance I can expect out of the motor. I looked at the boat twice and really like it and as soon as the ice melts here is WI I will be taking it for a test drive. Any info appreciated. |

Hi pokman. Welcome to this forum. If I'm not mistaken our paths have crossed over on iboats. Make sure you check the boat out thoroughly. I have seen boats from that generation with rotten floors. I haven't actually run that generation of Four Winns, however, I would guess that that 115 would be plenty of power and would probably give a top speed in the mid 40s. That generation of boats was pretty light. |

Rotaryracer, Good to talk to you again, you are the man to talk to about FW's. I stumbled on this site and thought I'de see if anyone had this boat as it seems to be few and far between. |

Perhaps check in the previous models section might be helpful. And by the way, "Welcome" |

I second the rot concern especially if the boat has carpet over plywood decking, which most of them probably did, unless it has the optional fiberglass liner. Even then, the deck coring of course is still plywood so check for rot wherever things were mounted to the deck like seat bases, etc. Also check the transom for rot as well, cracks in the 'glass, etc. |

I have a 1997 horizon qx 170 with a johnson 115. The boat goes in the mid to upper forties considering the load, I find it to have pleanty of power for my needs. Still looks and runs great. Good luck N |

I have a 99 170 f/s with a 115 johnson. My performance is good with a full tank of fuel 26 gal. and all gear plus all fishing gear and four adults top speed 45 to 46. Pulling tubers and skiers great. Best part fuel usage great at a cruise speed of around 35. |

Tadpole, Do you know what bolt hole you have your motor set at? I am only able to get 5100 rpms out of 19p ss prop and I am thinking about raising the motor. |
