Hey guys,

Today I fired up my boat to get it ready for the long weekend. As soon as I started it I looked at the outdrive and noticed that an exhaust hose was undone (I think? Black slinky looking hose?). I tried to get at the hose clamp to re-install it, but it is a pretty tight area to get at. Can I still run the boat like this? I was planning on using the boat tomorrow, but if it is a no no then I won't be using it. The boat is an 03 Horizon with a Merc.

Also, in relation to my question, I had my dealership change the impeller earlier this season. Is this hose something that they would have to undo to carry out this job, and maybe they forgot to re-install it? I know for a fact that it was done up when I winterized the boat last fall.

Thanks!

Gee- It will be fine to run it without it. It will just be a little louder. Some people remove them completely. The dealer should'nt have messed with it on an impeller install.

On the alpha drive you actually will have 3 black slinky looking hoses (bellows)....the lowest big one will be the exhaust...the upper big one will be the drive boot. If its the lowest one then you should be OK, but personally i would want it attached. If it's the upper one - definitely don't run the boat or dunk it in the water. You want the shaft, u joint and gimble bearing dry to avoid sinking or major damage.

The third will be harder to see and smaller around - about a thumb side around. It will be on teh starboard side, but in drive cavity. This is your shift cable boot and also is a do not use if not attached or damaged item...this little boot has swamped many a boat.

To re-attach that exhaust you will need to lower your drive unit so there isn't as much reach for the hose to attach. Get a socket with extension and swivel to get to the clamp and get after it - they make a sealant for this to help it stay in place....it helps lube during slide on and then sets up once clamped down and held in place.
