Hi,
Can anyone recommend a Portable Fish Finder/GPS and Plot charter unit and give me an idea how it really works? I am looking at the Hummingbird 407710-1-FISH FINDER, 385CI COMBO, has anyone had any experience with it? what I don't want to do is to go through fixing one in permanently not to damage the boat and go through the hastle.

Thanks,
Mike

Just installed the Garmin 546s on mine. Not cheap, but very detailed with a ton of options.

Looks good. That really is the way to go. The longer you are going to keep the boat, the more I would think of a fixed mount.

The mount really only required 4 screws and some 4200. Could be removed. With my helm, there was no other way. Some of the newer models (and bigger models) have a cupholder up to the right of the gauges and many mount in there which is a easy way to make a permanent and removable mount.

If I upgraded the boat, the GPS would come with me. I would just make something to cover that area. One of the "warning" decals would fit there well LOL!

Thanks for that.
I was thinking the fixed route would be the best off course but just hated to put holes in her but the cup holder idea is not bad. mine is a 2008 H240 and the cup location below the dash is just a bit useless so maybe I will mount it there if it would be accessible. I definately want the Fish finder/GPS/Chart plotter combo though because I'm here in Dubai and there are so many little islands that we can go to spend the night and fish.
