Hi everyone,
Hoping to close on a 2007 H180 with 4.3L Mercruiser by this weekend, which will be my first boat :D . Met with local seller last Saturday and made a deal at $14K. Boat is in immaculate condition with around 200 hrs on it. Includes bow/cockpit covers, front filler cushio, tilt steering, life jackets, anchor, ropes, life jackets, winterizing kit, etc. I wanted it looked over before committing so we towed it to a local Mercruiser authorized service center to do an inspection (compression, lower unit etc) which is supposed to be done by this Thursday. My only concern (that I could find) is that one of the rear engine mounting bolts was rusting. I brought that up to get checked as well during inspection and will negotiate it into the sale price assuming it needs replaced.

Assuming everything goes as planned, I may have a specially nice father's day this year. Will post some pics when the deal closes.

Welcome! Sounds like you're doing a good job on the inspection and not rushing into it. We have one hard & fast rule around here - you have to post pics of your boat, otherwise it never happened. 8)

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to post them here, someone will jump in and help. Or at least make something up.

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm sure I will have many other questions once things are done.
One of the initial items I am battling is that the seller has an outstanding loan and doesn't have the money to pay it off to get the title. I'm not handing over $14k to anyone without some assurance, so I took out a loan app today with my local bank (PNC) with the intent of them handling all the paperwork. After closing and them paying off the lienholder, I will just payoff my loan and gain title possession. In the meantime, I will have a memorandum of title. This seems to be the best way I came up with to protect myself with the transfer, and I just don't need anymore stress in my life like waiting for a seller to send me a title!

You got a heck of a deal. I paid $22.2K for a new 2011 H180 3.0 MPI. It's going to arrive nearly the end of the month. I will post pics too.

Well, I got it! Everything looked good from the inspection. The rusty engine mount bolt was due to a drain plug above it that was put in without an o-ring and subsequently dripping down. Compression test great, drive fluids fine (no water) etc.

We took it out last weekend for a couple hours test drive/familiarization at our local lake. Runs great and I got the feel of trim adjustment pretty quickly. My reverse navigation needs a little work but coming along fine. My first loading when we were done was probably the best I'll ever do...up on and straight and just a small nudge into the front roller

I do have one issue to work out, that being losing a small (but consistent) amount of drive fluid into the hull. There is some oily residue in the hull which washes up into the ski locker that I have traced down to the drive reservoir bottle. The bottom of the bottle where the low level sensor screws on and/or the hose connection appears to have a small leak as that area was wet with lube. Planning on disassembling that later this week and doing some testing on integrity of the fittings, including the cap. From what I have seen, this appears to be a fairly common problem.

One thing I want which the boat didn't come with is a depth sounder. Just ordered a Faria in hull one today and will install in the non functional instrument slot on the left of the cluster.

Will get some pics up later this week (as soon as I take the covers off again).

Nice looking boat Dack! Ours have similar color scheme (Black/Tan/White) although the original owner didn't get the extra decal on the sides. Here's a quick pic I snapped this morning before leaving and will post some more later:

I'm jealous of your seat bolster....previous owner appeared to be around 6'3" tall so he opted not to get it for either seat. I'm going to search a bit for an aftermarket one or end up building something myself. If anyone knows of anything available as a retrofit, please let me know.

Thanks guys,

Very happy with the H180.

Booster seat is awesome, swivel not so much - see the other post.

On the lake as I type watching the sunset...it does get any better.

Cheers!

Awesome boat I wanted the 18 but my wife wanted the 22 needless to say I lost! Less weight more speed and with a 4.3 she is running like a bat out of hades!
