I've searched the forum but can't seem to find what I need. I purchased a new 2010 180LE last summer. I found that the primer didn't work properly (or I was doing something wrong) and therefore had trouble starting the boat without revving it a little in neutral. My first outing this year - same thing. Full tank of gas (half was new high octane mixed with the half a tank of gas left in the boat over the winter with fuel stablilzer). Once started it wouldn't stay idling. I was able to get it going, drove half to full speed for an hour or two but anytime I went to a lower speed or tried to just idle, it would shut down. I'm fairly new to boat and have just taken it in to Mercury dealer as it's under warranty. Going to see them tomorrow to pick it up as they can't see anything. Wondering if I can get help with following: 1 - How do I prime the engine/get fuel injector to prime when I'm about to start...maybe i'm not doing it right 2 - Why would the engine not idle and why after running it without problems at half/full speed for some time would it again not idle or run at low speed. Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated. |

On my throttle handle, you press the center of the large round base of the throttle while at the same time, press the button on the throttle handle and it is in neutral (prop will not spin) and you press the throttle handle forward and back a bit and I start it at this point and adjust the throttle so it's not revving too high. My boat is an 03 with a carb and yours might be different. |

Oh wow didn't know that it "unlocked"!!! Before starting cold with the engine off I would just move the handle to full throttle and back to neutral, then start it. Fires up on the first crank every time. |

Just got it back from area marina that services Mercury. They adjusted the idle and it started better but did the same thing for the first 15 minutes. After running it for about an hour, I was then able to idle, drive at low speeds and had no issues after that. I don't much about boats, but thinking that it might have been some condensation in the tank from winter storage but I would have though it would affect the running of the boat at higher speeds as well. Very odd. Not only would it cut out at lower speeds, but when I was going slow and started to increase speed, it would sometimes stall the boat. Ran for about 3 hours yesterday and after that, was able to start no problem, idle, drive at low speed. Hopefully it's resolved now. Appreciate input from everyone. Thanks. |

best thing to get is a water separator. A Boat engine is just a car engine, literally. Same thing just in a different container. All the same rules apply |
