Hi,
Just saw that my Faria aftermarket depth sounder is being delivered this afternoon and I'm hoping to get it installed before this weekend, as I have the next two days off.
My question is if any of you H180 owners with in hull transducer could let me know where your transducer is located exactly, assuming it's in the bilge area near the pump? I searched but didn't find the answer.

Thanks in advance.

OK, I'll answer my own question :)
Just called FW and their tech told me to mount 16-18" forward of transom, and 8" starboard of center.
That's the "official" answer in the event anyone else has similar scenario.
BTW....they had VERY pleasant customer support, and took all of about 2 minutes total.

You're welcome! One more thing they said was that if you need to move an inch or two in either axis to avoid an obstacle (engine part in the way etc.) that it should still be fine.

After getting the gauge and transducer in yesterday and looking at the transducer (Airmar brand) mounting method, I'm a little concerned. The transducer has a mounting ring (with offset for dead rise angle) that is to be siliconed to the hull and then the transducer itself mounts into that. My concern is that when finally assembled, it appears that the bottom of the transducer will not be in contact with the hull and there will be an air pocket in there as a result. Although this appears to be the way it's designed, everything I've read about transducers so far has indicated air pockets are a no no.

Has anyone used this style transducer and ran across similar concern? The instructions say nothing about filling the base ring cavity with anything, just says to make sure to silicon the ring's edge properly so no water can get inside. I may just give them a call before I put it in for peace of mind.

Edit: Dooh...maybe I need to read directions more carefully. The ring/base gets some boat antifreeze filled in there before inserting the transducer. Step 9 in the directions

How did the install go? Are you happy with the location, and the readings the transducer are giving you?
I am hoping to install mine in the next day or two so I am just curious! Thanks!

I have been using this setup for several years. It works ok, loses readings and flashes at times but so does the oem thru hull on the other side.
The spec is for propylene glycol as opposed to ethylene glycol normally used in automobile cooling systems. It is less toxic.

They also used to recommend mineral oil, I would try this next time to see if it stops the flashing.

Everything went just fine. I had to install a few inches forward of recommended due to location of the bilge pump (I didn't feel like moving it). Went out two weekends ago and appears to work very well, with no losses in readings etc. Here's a couple pics:
