I have a '98 240 Horizon with 5.7L GSI/ 285 hp with throttle body injectors. We ski with the boat and are looking for proper (strong) performance out of the hole especially for slalom skiing. Boat was bogging badly from engagement of prop to full throttle application. Performed tuneup with new plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Performance improved slightly but still bogging significantly out of hole. Top speed is good at around 52 mph trimmed out. Injector spray looks consistent between the two injectors as boat accelerates. All cylinders checked out at 155psi compression. Trying to figure out where to turn next. Boat has stock (I believe) F6 Volvo prop set. Thanks for any direction on this.

Ran the boat this morning at local lake. I am now thinking that it may just be overpropped as it runs well if you push up the throttle progressively, has a 51 mph top end at around 4700 - 4800 rpm, idles smoothly, etc. The bog is just when "mashing"the throttle from idle. Has anyone tried F5 Volvo props on a DPS drive on a 240 Horizon with 5.7 GSI, TBI motor? Thanks again for any input.

I answered your other post before I saw this one.

You should be able to make 5,000rpm's with that engine with a top speed of around 48-50. I'm fairly sure the original props on that boat were F5's. I'd swap them and see what it does.

Thanks for the info from both posts. I think we are going to try the F5's and see what happens. The bog is only a slight hesitation off of the bottom as if the motor is overtaxed and then once the hull starts to break on top of the water it accelerates quickly. I do not care that much what the top speed is as we use the boat for sking, tubing, etc.

Fastkat, where are you located? I've got a set of F5s for sale. I'll let you try them if you are in West Michigan.

Sounds more like a fuel pump on the way out. I have a '97 240 7.4Gi and have now replaced both fuel pumps. They acted the same way your describing. Not all the time either. My son is a mechanic, when he heard the whine of the fuel pump, said your pump is getting bad. Sure enough, it was.

My 2003 240H has F5's --- I strongly suggest you try that.
It pops out of the hole well even with lots of people on board --- I can also lower my Bennett trip tabs to plane quicker.
Having said all that, it is a large boat and is not going to be a Malibu ski boat.

Change the fuel filter as part of the tuneup? Cheaper than the props and even if it doesn't work it still needs it if the original is still in there.
