Post subject: | Tach Not Working |
So we finally had some nice weather here in Indiana and I was able to take my 2001 FW 180 out for the first time this past weekend. I bought her in December, so it was very nice to finally be able to get her out on the water. Everything went smoothly and it was a great day out on the water, but I noticed the tach was not working. I checked the back of the tach to make sure it was set for the correct number of cylinders and even tried other settings, but it seems to be stuck at around 800 RPM and it is not responding. I also checked and wiggled all of the connections on the back of the tach itself, but there was still no response. Does anyone have any tips for troubleshooting a tach? Do the gages themselves go out frequently? Thanks!! |

Yes they can go out. I had a bad one replace in my 248 Vista. |

I found a website that had a few troubleshooting tips (http://www.teleflexmarine.com), so I went home last night and tried a couple things. From what I can tell, the tach is dead since it will not zero when power is applied. "3. When tachometer is first turned on, pointer MUST go to zero +/- 50 RPM. If not, check connections, or tachometer is faulty." I checked to make sure I had a good ground and 12V, but it will not zero. I guess it is time to look into a new one.[/url] |

As far as what could go wrong on a boat, that's an easy and cheap problem to fix. |
