Hi, first post on iFourwinns. :D

I have a 2001 Horizon 230, 5.7Gxi, DP, 1.95 ratio. Any input on this boat swinging an F7 prop set? I am at sea level.
I dont tow with her at all, mainly just running around or dropping anchor for a swim. (relaxation is key. 8) )

I am running an F4 prop set now and out of the hole she is just ridiculous quick as you can imagine. My parents have a place up river so I need to get my revs lower and cover some water.

So what say you? F7 or should I settle for F6?

Welcome aboard..... 5.7 with 1.95 gear ratio stern drive should be the best with F5.... You would loose hole shot drastically with F6....but might pick up 2 mph on top end from F5.... Do not bother with F7 with your set up.... If you know some one who has extra set of props you might want to try them...
My recommendation would be a set of F5 for 230 w 5.7&1.95 gear.... Overall it should work best for your boat.

Our 97 245 Sundowner, with the 5.7Gi-DP (280hp), had the F6 props (don't know the drive ratio). This was perfect. With two people on board, it was a hot rod (well, comparatively, it was no 8.1 Baja), with 8 it was still accepable coming up on plane. In fact, with only two people and a light load, it could probably have swung an F7. For daily use as a tube towing, people carrying, sprot and day-cruising boat, the F6s were a perfect match.

I have the F5's on my boat --- and they are fine. I am sure you could use the F6's if you wanted but the F5 is the recommended set.-- If there were a set of F6's near me that someone had, I have always wanted to try one. However, I am not sure for occassional use that the difference would really be that much. For a far lower price I would suggest you consider adding someting to give you fuel consumption. I have a Lowrance GPS chartplotter along with a fuel usage sensor and it ties into a NMEA2000 network.

With that I have MILES PER GALLON (or GPH or others as you want) as a display I have overlaid right at the top of my GPS chart screen.

You can learn to trim out the boat well, as also learn what RPM gives the best crusing fuel usage. I might get 2.5 miles per gallon or 3.0 miles per gallon depending upon trim, weight, or a few hundred RPM. Like most devices like this after a while you learn where you want to cruise for economy, or quicker but still have reasonable economy. It also can serve as a reference in case something happens. Like you ding a prop and want to know if it is affecting fuel usage.

Just a suggestion ---- the cost of adding a NMEA2000 network and fuel sensor (to my allready network capable GPS/Chartplotter was about $160 two years ago. (and I installed it myself)

DaleG, I didnt know one could monitor fuel usage in such a way. I will look into it.

I need to find a person in my area (Ca. Delta) that wants an F4 prop set. Hopefully somebody that needs a set for Tahoe and wants to trade. Heck the boat only has 160 hrs on it so they are pristine.
