I have a 2010 h180 with sony stereo, four speakers and subwoofer, which came with the boat. Today we took the boat out, ran about 4 miles offshore to Dog Island. Pulled up to shore and turned the engine completely off. A few seconds later we heard this weird kinda hum, lasted about a second then disappeared. Then it came back, purselike, every ten seconds or so. Again, the key was in the ignition but in the off position, no power to gauges, radio or anything - engine completely off. After a couple minutes we traced it to the subwoofer which is located on port side under the glovebox where the tuner/cd player is located. I turned the key to the left which gives power only to the radio, turned radio on and off a couple times, but the pulse remained. I disconnected the red and white plugs that lead into the subwoofer and the pulse stopped. I haven't reconnected the subwoofer now that it's parked, figured if it started again it might drain the battery or worse. Any idea what this might be and how to fix? |

It's a far-fetched thought, but do you have a VHF on board and if so, is it working correctly? |

Mark, you're thinking RF interference aren't you..... How could he be getting power surges from RCA connectors with the power off? Crossed wires, bad ground, something not hooked up correctly? Does it do it if you switch red and white connectors? |

Who's this Mark dude?  It would be far-fetched, but not impossible, for a VHF with either a bad antenna or compromised antenna connection, to radiate RF into the (poorly shielded) speaker cables. When that happens, a subwoofer tends to hum, buzz, or rumble.
