I assume you have the Volvo Penta 3.0 GL/SX 135 hp?

Our dealer taught us to prime it first, I assume that's what you mean by "2 shots of throttle"?

You then push the button on the throttle to put it in neutral, give a little bit of gas then start it. You don't want it too far so the engine revs too high when it starts, though.

Once it's warmed up a little, you should be able to engage the prop without stalling.

mine was the same. I just pump it once and fire it and it slowely picks up but never gets up above 750 cold. Have them adjust it. and all will be good.

Yes, this little engine is a bit "cranky" when cold starting. I find that I have to give it the two shots, get it started, then idle it around 900-1000 rpm for a few minutes to warm it up. Good ole carbs, you kinda forget how they work living in a fuel injected world, don't ya!

figured it out i was reading the owner manual and the center button on the arm when its pressed it cancels the transmission to engaged and you are able to raise the idle on the motor with the trottle arm !thanks anyways!

I've got the 3.0L and experience the same thing. My dealer suggested three "pumps" and then advance the throttle for starting. Now that I've got the hang of it, cold starts are no problem. It seems to take a long time to warm up, however. After 4-5 minutes, it still wants to stall when reversing from the launch.

Ditto with "mini-me" A couple minutes at a slightly higher idle and she is good for the day.

I have a similar ritual including a couple of pumps on the throttle, and then just enough to get her started and let it idle at about 1000rpms for 3-4 minutes while getting fenders in, etc, then off we go. Next one will be EFI for sure, but now that I am used to it, it's no big deal.
