Hi All

First boat owner. Picked up a 2002 180 with a 4.3 volvo a few weeks ago. Purchased from a reseller here in D/FW. The boat was in awesome shape and appears to have been garage kept. Lake tested and started and ran great. Purchased her and brought her home.

Took her out the next weekend and spent 5 hours gunning her all over Lake Grapevine. Ran perfectly. Took her out the next weekend and spent 3 hours doing the same. Absolutely no issues.

So last Friday I decide to check the oil in the engine prior to taking her out again and found carmel colored oil halfway up the dipstick. I figure that somehow water or some other contaminate got into the oil and has whipped it up quite a bit. So I cancelled the weekend and am planning on taking her in to get it professionally checked.

I didn't have a survey done before I bought her (kicks self)

So what are your thoughts about the issue?

also any problems with Noth Texas Marine? I'm a complete noob to this boat ownership stuff and thought ya'll could lend some guidence. Since I see pics are required here I offer this:

No doubt you have an issue with something in your oil. Did you check it before you bought it? I'm asking looking to see if it was an issue prior to you running the boat or something you might have done. Boat runs good right?

I have to admit that I didn't check the oil prior to purchase. Yeah, I'm berating myself somewhat about that. I have figured out that the boat sat awhile prior to me getting it as evidenced by marks on the bearing races (I did replace all wheel bearings and races). I think the boat sat for a few years.

The boat runs fantastic. Starts very easy, idles great and gets out of the hole in a blink with no stalling. Runs about 45mph on the speedo. Haven't started it since seeing the oil though, but up until then no issue at all.

Nice boat!

When you replace the bad headgasket for the life of you do NOT use felpro or you'll be doing it again next year. Use a MLC gaskets. multiple layer steel.
