So last night here in Michigan we got our first coating of snow. As beautiful as it is and good for bowhunting it kills me to come home and look in the garage just to see my boat on the trailer. Ya can go out crack a beer and sit in it but its just not the same. At least i got hunting for the rest of the month, but than what???? Its almost the same as looking at that snowmobile sitting there in the summer. At least the boat is paid for.

Yep, it sucks. I went down to the marina last night to run the engines, generator, heater, etc... Drained the water tank as it was supposed to get slightly below freezing the next few nights. On Wednesday I will probably go get some water system antifreeze and get it put in.

It's 65 right now at 830pm and high of 82 tomorrow. I picked up some salmon and veggies to grill out on the lake tomorrow for dinner. Mmmm Mmmmm

It's about 30 here right now...pretty chilly.

I am staying the night on the boat on Saturday night. My daughters girl scout troop is staying the night at our house, so no boys allowed.

Well I'm going to be able to see mine every day for the first winter ever, but not because I want to. We had 10 - 15 inches of heavy wet snow back in October that caused widespread destruction across the state. Mainly because most of the oak trees still had their leaves. The snow clung to the leaves and the rest is history.

For the last 3 years to save money by avoiding having it wrapped every year I've kept my boat in a portable shelter at my father's house.

Unfortunately this is what it looked like the morning after the storm: (yes...my boat's in there)

So the solution for this year was to do a little landscaping so my boat would fit down my driveway and leave it under my deck which doubles as a carport.

I'm going to miss having that room under my deck during the winter, but I kind of like having it home where I can keep an eye on it.

Dallas Guy - hopefully those girls will pack you some Girl Scout cookies for you solo-campout!!! Just a reminder - make sure you have a working CO alarm in your cabin.......cheap insurance.

Ric - guess i am a whimp cuz i wouldnt cruise around in a BR in the 60's....i like comfort too much -- gues if i had a cabin cruiser or some other type boat where i could huddle out of the wind it would be different:) 60 at 35mph feels like 10 to me.....guess i like cruising in the 80 to 90's when boarding and bikinis are in season:)

That doesn't apply to fishing though - but no fish hit my FW deck.....i got an old basstracker for that.

Just curious but why would he need a working CO alarm in his cabin if he is not running the engine or generator? The reason I ask is because my two youngest tore mine up and they no longer work. Do you really have to worry about CO when the boat is docked at the slip?

What about the boats that are running next to you in the slip? They produce CO and it can end up down in your cabin. It's unlikely....but it could happen

There wont be any boats running in any slips next to me. And yeah, we are staying in the slip so will be on shore power only.

If your kiddos tore the alarm up = you need to repair it. You are right the likelihood of problem when not running engine or genny is extremely slim. But keep in mind a boat that never runs the engine is kindof a barge. Point being - the motor will fire up sooner or later and people will be on board. The cabin is like a bowl and venting just doesn't happen.

CO Alarms are CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP....and are essential in boats, RV's and houses. Be thankful you have never seen someone die like that and hope you never do!!!! Be safe and have fun....OH, those cookies are a must too:)
