Well I am the proud owner of a extra clean 95 240 horizon with maybe 300 hrs. After searching for the source of my water leak I found the port side exhaust elbows have been removed by previous work and whoever reinstalled the first rubber hose/pipe going to the elbow had rolled and cut the lower lip. Where can I find these hose/pipes?!? The other issue I found is that both exhaust flaps were broke and the holes that the pivot pin goes thru are completly trashed and oblonged out... What can I do to fix this?!? |

I don't think they sell the flappers anymore. Never installed mine haven't had a problem. Got my hoses at http://www.ebasicpower.com/ |

Any dealer will have the parts in stock...common items. Most of the time the flaps do not have to be reinstalled, they are to prevent water pushing back into the engine when the engine is off or if it happens to diesel when you shut it off and spins backwards, wave surge will also do the same thing...generally only happened in cruisers where the engine sits very low in the boat. |

Thanks for all the help and info!! I must say that i do understand the flap opperation... I trailer my boat and it hardly will sit in the water with out me on the boat and i don't just hang out in 3ft. wakes so i didn't really think i would NEED the flaps but wanted to know what everybody else would think... I have owned this boat since june of last year and from what i see the flaps have not been working since then and i have not had any water injested into the engine at all... But the other alternative i was thinking of doing is take the exhaust bellow off and get a 3in. thru hull exhaust flap and install on there just for the unexpected protection and peace of mind... |

Volvo Penta issued a bulletin to remove the flaps in the exhaust (I used to have the # but can't find it now). They are gone in my boat and I haven't had a problem in 3 years. |

Cool this just eases my mind... From what i see the risers sit so high up off the water line i think there would have to be like a 5 or 6ft wave that crashes up to the back of the boat to even attempt to get water in the engine... |
