Four Winns confirmed that they no longer have the 4.3L Mercruiser / Volvo engine in stock because it doesn't meet the US EPA standards. In a few days or so, I'm going place an order for the H180 with 3.0L Mercruiser Multi-Port Injection (MPI). I was told that you'll get a higher resale value in the US due the stringent emissions requirements.
The 4.3l V6 Mercruiser non catalysed engine was exempt from the most-recent round of EPA exhaust emissions regulations because GM Powertrain, which manufactures the base engine, had told the marine industry it would be dropping production of the 4.3. The EPA granted the exception so marine engine builders would not have to invest in developing a catalyst package for an engine that would only remain on the market for a single season. However, GM later changed its plans, and the 4.3 remained in production and is a popular engine option on small to mid-size runabouts and cruisers. GMPT released the new catalysed 4.3L V-6 in January of 2011, it will replace the old version as the pipeline dries up. It's almost dry now, as most builders bought all of them up late last year, and have already installed them in boats that are already produced.
Volvo Penta, has announced it will not develop a catalyzed version of the 4.3-liter V6, but will offer that engine with either a carburetor or fuel-injection system, with availability limited by the number of low-emissions, catalyzed engines the company sells.
So the 4.3L V-6 will remain, and it is not true that the 3.0L version in any similar boat has a higher resale value, than a boat equpped with either version of the now 220HP 4.3L V6. That was a sales trick to get you to buy the 3.0L. Which in iteself is a good engine, but when selling a boat, 98% of the time, more horespower will sell the boat quicker than less horespower, and at a higher sell price.
