I get a click when I attempt to start engine. How do check the starter solenoid.

I jumped the two large posts and I still get a click. I think my starter is bad. How big a job is it to change the starter on a 1994 190 Horizon 5.8 liter OMC Cobra?

Welcome!

Are your batteries charged fully? May be causing your problems.

double check your battery, but usually the click that you are hearing is the solenoid. You can jumper the solenoid from large to large terminals with an insulated screwdriver to by pass the solenoid. If it turns over your solenoid is bad if it still just clicks or clunks the starter needs attention. You will get some sparks and arcing so be careful.

Ha, I did this once when I forgot the boat was in gear and it wouldn't start. Wind was strong, i was drifting towards shore. I was going around in circles. Finally jumped the solenoid and the boat started moving. Ooops :)
