Post subject: | 2005 Four Winns 190 4 Blade Prop |
Hi Everyone, I'm looking at replacing my current 3 blade 14.25x21 prop with 4 blade aluminum. I have 2005 Horizon 190 with the 5.0l gl. I've called a few marina in the area and get mixed information on the prop to go with. One says go with the 14.25 x 19 Solas Amita, another say go with the 14 x 21 Solas Amita and another says go with the 14x20 Michigan Wheel Vortex. Does this make sense? Thanks |

I put a four blade on my last boat a 210 horizon with 5.0 and it helped with the hole shot and for water sports. I dont recall the specs, but I called four winns and they suggested the one I got. |

I'm looking at geting better hole shot for water sports, pull the tubes and wakeboarders. Top end is not that much of a concern as we're on a smaller cottage lake. All 3 diffrent recommendation were from marinas that sell and service Four Winns boats. That"s why I'm a bit confused as to what to go with. Thanks fo rth help. |

I've been thru lots of props... Alum and SS; 3, 4 and even 5 blades, and I was disappointed when I tried a 4 blade alum on my last boat compared to others. If you just want a respectable increase in overall performance, I would start with a 3 blade SS (assuming your present is alum), matching the dimensions you currently have. That will both improve hole-shot, and top end as the blade flexes less than alum. I think you will see the most notable improvement that won't break the bank, and look good. As far as the options you have presented, Assuming you are not totally disappointed with present performance, go with the pitch that is closest to that. the 14x21 has a slightly smaller diameter, and will result in increased RPM, and should still improve hole-shot with additional blade count, but slightly slower top-end. From your post, you are running a 5.0 on a 190, so power shouldn't be an issue at all. In my experience, this difference in performance will not be as much as changing to a 3 blade SS of the same size. |

I did this a few years ago, went from the stock 14.25x21 to a 4-blade 14.25x19. It worked out well for me. It would depend what rpm's you are getting now as to what prop you might want. For me I think a 20 would have been perfect. I just purchased a 14.25x21 SS that is on the boat, but hasn't been in the water yet. I'm looking forward to seeing how it does. Good luck ! |
