I am curious as to the set-up (factory?). I have the Rule automatic switch a(sort of like this: http://img.nauticexpo.com/images_ne/pho ... -49656.jpg ) And the Rule pump (red top: something like Rule 1100 G.P.H. Automatic Bilge Pump Rule). My question is> Is the switch just connected to the pump with a black dual wire? It seems like the pump is wired and then the switch part almost just plugs into the pump. All my research seems to indicate that the switch is wired differently, but i'm not sure. Can you please explain the wiring set-up so I can make sure the boat is safe this year. Do you recommend pouring water in the bilge to test......preferably at home before we get to put it in for the season. Thank you!!!!!!!!!! |

The pump shoud be wired like this. The black(neg) is connected to the Neg side of the battery or Neg bus bar. The other wire, the Pos wire and generally a brown wire, goes to the helm to a switch so you can manual turn it on. Now you have your float swith, with two wires. I am talking general terms here because at this point it could be wired in a few ways. But is ALWAY this end result, a constant (before the battery switch)12v feed is conected to one side of the float switch. The othe side connected to the brown wire (three wires connented to each other) on the pump. Float goes up, and you should be able to do it by hand, the pump turn on. The same with the switch. Thank you guys! It helped a ton! I looked at the links and then actually took off the engine surround. I lifeted the tab on the automatic switch and it come on......so it works! The pump is only a 500 GPM.....should I chnage it for something bigger? If i do change it, can I just splice into the wires near the pump or do i need to run it up a bit to splice in....to avoid running all the way to the helm. Thanks and sorry for all the questions, I am rather new to boating. |

The boat comes with what is required to meet safety standards. Bigger never hurts however the discharge hose and thru-hull fittings increase as you increase in pump size. So you may want to leave well enough alone. As far as the wiring you want as to make sure wherever you connect the wires stays high and dry. Butt-connectors that sit in moisture tend to corrode and break very quickly. Solder the connections and heat shrink them is the best way to go and then tie them up off the bottom with some zip ties. |

I always add a 2nd pump. A small boat can get over whelmed quickly! Plus, if the 2nd pump failed for what ever reason, you have the 2nd one to fall back on to. If you have a dual battery setup, connect the 2nd pump the 2nd battery. |
