Took the boat out to the lake yesterday, started right up and was idling fine. Put it in reverse to back it off the trailer and it quit. Engine will turn over but will not start. Waited 10-15 minutes and still nothing, again engine will turn over but will not start. Would a weak battery cause this?

Looking for some ideas before I take it to get serviced. Thanks in advance!

Start with the simplest solution first. Do you have a kill switch? If so, is your kill switch lanyard properly installed? Also, a friend of mine had a similar experience while out on the water. We kept coming back to the kill switch, but everything appeared to check out. We eventually found a loose wire to the kill switch on the back side of the throttle controls. I hope it is something simple such as this.

A weak battery could cause this, but your description makes it sound like it was turning over fine. If it was labored turning over, then put a charger on your battery and see if you can get it to fire.

Thank you and the kill switch seems fine and I just had the battery checked and its very weak less than 50% of the cranking amps. Getting a new battery and also going to make sure my alternator is good as well.

Appreciate the help!

My alternator has been all but toast for a year now (only outputting 12.5-13v) but it's enough to still charge. No starting issues. If the engine turns over, it should start.

Just a quick update, changed the battery and alternator checks out fine. Boat started without a problem and we are good to go. Thanks for everyone's input!

I added a second battery under the rear port seat for extra insurance. It was a pretty easy job and my boat came with a dual battery perko switch.
