Hello do you need to remove seat to change impeller or do you need to be a contorsionist to get at the pump thanks. Matt |

It depends on what interior you have. If you have the bench across the back it probably needs to be removed at least partially. Have a 99 200 & can't imagine changing it without taking out the back of the bench seat. Once remove access is very easy. |

Can you localize where the whine is coming from? Typically impellers don't make noise when they are bad and the water pump on the front of the engine will make grinding, howling noises when the bearing starts to fail. You will also see a water leak from the weep hole on the underside of the pump sometimes. How about the belt, is it on right. Lastly some of the Volvo fuel injected motors have had issues with whining fuel pumps. |

that sounded almost like an ambulance siren... strange! i do suspect it could be a fuel pump noise because mine makes a quiet constant tone... I guess the only way to know for sure is to remove the pump and hook the motor up to a battery... i did this once with my old boat (carb), but if you have FI i think there are a lot more steps to depressurize |
