Had something weird happen to me over the weekend with my pull up cleats. There are six of them on my boat. The two aft cleats failed on me this weekend. By "fail" I don't mean that they pulled away the fiberglass or cracked the gelcoat. Instead, the actual cleat part that pulls up completely came out of the assembly. One must have bounced out while I was in rough water because it was gone when I got back to the dock. The second one I pulled out myself when I pulled it up to tie up to the dock.

I noticed the underside of the cleat itself is female threaded. Does anyone know what goes on the bottom/threads into it? I would assume it some type of bolt/screw with a large head or something along those lines. I didn't find anything like that in the engine hatch and I can see the underside of those cleats from there. Very confusing.

I know I'm going to have to replace the one cleat but I'd like to be able to simply repair the other one. If anyone has any info that would help me do either or both I would greatly appreciate it.

Follow-up question: Does anyone know who made the OEM pull up cleats are on this model year? I'd like the replacements to match as closely as possible.

I have something...... but not sure if they are the same on your boat. Monterey uses GEM SS cleats.

post a pic. They're always 3rd party parts. It's just a matter of matching it up to whatever brand they are.

Take a look at the Four Winns parts book @ http://www.fourwinns.net/partbook/basemodel.php?model=220H-U02

For your year and model, it calls out "031-1137 CLEAT, 4-1/2 PULL-UP 66512-1 (NLA)"

Doing a Google search on 66512-1 gets hits for "Attwood 66512-1 Stainless Steel 4 1/2 Inch Lift Up Boat Cleat" (good call Ric).

Take a look and see if this matches what you have.

There's a couple of good pics of the bits that you'd need to repair your other one.

Good luck!
Erik

There is a reason they use Attwood, well several reasons, primarily because the Attwood accessories plant is only a short ride from Cadillac where the boats are made. You would be surprised how many parts and pieces of Four Winns boats are also made right here in Michigan.
The company I used to work for makes the dash inserts (around the gauges) for Four Winns boats. The company I currently work for also supplies Four Winns. So you see, I do still have some ties to the brand, despite my recent choices in boats.

So basically all this guy needs is two stainless screws and a piece of metal with two holes in it... I could whip something up in a few minutes at the local ACE Hardware for under $5 to fix this (with locktite so it doesn't happen again)

Some guy is selling a NOS one missing the backplate for 40obo on ebay, I'd low ball him for that 2nd one.

Thanks guys. I posted a reply yesterday but for some reason it was deleted. Turns out it is a 6-incher for the 2007 model. Ordered the Atwood 6 inch neat cleat. We'll see how it goes. Might turn into a nice little thread with pics.

Well turns out my local marine dealer ordered an Atwood Flush Cleat and that is different than an Atwood Neat Cleat. When I got to my lake place I took the old one out and found this:

Cleat as is, with the actual cleat removed because of the break:

Another angle:

View from inside engine compartment, WAY in the back in a difficult spot. YOGA TIME!!!!

After removal:

Measurement hull to deck:

Up close so you can see what is under the fiberglass and gelcoat. Glad to see FW actually puts some solid stuff in there!

The Flush Cleat requires a cutout in a small rectangle shape to install it appropriately. The Neat Cleat (pictured below) has the stud mount system that I require here so I had to return the Flush Cleat and make sure the proper Neat Cleat was ordered. Turns out the Neat Cleat is $20 cheaper. BONUS!

Surprisingly, the old cleat I removed had no name brand or anything stamped on it. Only a patent number. I'll see if I can look up the patent number when a get a chance and update.

Found some more info after searching the patent number:

Manufacturer: Marine Hardware, Inc. (Redmond, WA)
DUAL POST PULL-UP CLEAT
Part No. SSCL80700
"Manufactured under license by Attwood"

I'm guessing the Atwood Neat Cleat I have now ordered will be darned near identical to this one.
