So, in my quest for an extended swim platform, I stumbled on another larger boat. I have a 2002 180 Horizon with the single axle matching trailer. It has the sunsport seating and a 4.3. The boat has under 100 hrs and in immaculate condition inside and out. What I found is 22' with a dual axle trailer and a 5.0. Same year, more hours, but only 200. They're looking for $15500. Is $12k unreasonable for my boat? If it isn't, and assuming I would be into an extended swim deck installed for ~$2K, would it make sense to go to the larger boat for $1500? How much worse on fuel is the 5.0? Is there a large difference in towing between the two? I have a 2012 Hemi Ram

I don't know the value price wise of your 180 but being able to jump up to a 22' assuming good condition for not that much more might be a good deal. Your Hemi Ram should have no trouble towing that boat. Just make sure to check the boat and trailer out carefully. The difference the 4' makes in smaller boats is huge and will allow you to enjoy the water more on days when conditions are not perfect. Fuel consumption, should not be a big difference, but you are pushing a lot more weight with the 22'. Merc or Volvo? sometimes that makes a difference depending on local service shops.

I don't know what the market is in VT is but I am in NC and when I was looking for a boat last year (2011 Sept-Oct time frame), I wouldn't have even considered a 2002 180 w/4.3 priced at $12,500 regardless of the condition or hours. You have to keep in mind that there are many people willing to sell their boat for less than you might think. Last October, I picked up a 2005 Mariah 180 w/3.0L and 18 hours (yes, 18 hours...long story but only 18 hours) in excellent condition and with a single-axle galvanized trailer for $6K (was stored indoors). I realize the Mariah is a different boat than the FW but that is what you are competing against. I did end up selling the Mariah in December (after 3 months and only adding 4 hours) for $9,300 and purchased a 2005 FW Horizon 210 w/5.0L MFI, 165 hours and dual-axle galvanized trailer for $10,250. The exterior of the 210 needed some work (I posted before and after pics here http://www.smwebhead.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9537 but the engine and interior were in great condition.

I just sold my minty 2000 H180 with a 3.0 for $6500 for a quick sale. If I waited it out.. could have probably got $7000-7500. Your 2002 H180 with a 4.3 is still in the same class as my 2000. NADA value is $8100 and browsing classifieds that's pretty much what they're going for. The market is full of cheap Bayliners and off brands for 3-5k. Most boat purchasers only care about 3 things: Year, cosmetics, price. If they can pick up a 2005 Bayliner with a 4.3, looks pretty, and is $6000. Guess what they're buying? Not yours.

2002 H210/220's are going for 11-13k and their NADA value is 12,800.

Most private party and all dealers sell the price exactly what NADA says average retail is. 15,500 is simply too high.

NADA controls the price, that's what dealers charge, private parties ask, and what insurance gives you if you total the boat. People that ask more are just dreaming or still owe the bank tons of money on their loan.

I would disagree to some extent for the crap boats. The Bayliners, Tahoe, Stingrays of the world seem to sit longer up here and sell for way less. There were two other buyers waiting for my decision on this boat, one even offering $500 more than they were asking. I think the quality boats, FW, Mariah, Crownline, etc have people looking for them in particular. These boats don't sit long for sale even fr more money. The 17- 20' range seems to be the hot target one here anyway. I was a little surprised by it when I was looking.

Selling a boat is hard, especially if you want more then what NADA says. Your local market has to be competitive and in that same price range. That being said, shipping is really cheap right now and people are taking advantage of low boat prices in the south. The guy who purchased my boat did. Shipping from Orlando to NC was $600

I check daily here, if it's around more than 2 days near a weekend, it's odd. The only ways that stay have "issues". Torn out interior, bad motor, $18K for a 2004 18', etc. Still hard to justify trading as I've had this boat less than a year.

I had my 2000 H180 for exactly 1 year, now I'm finishing up on purchasing a 2004 Sundowner 205. The 205 should tie me over for a few years it's a good mix of speed, room, and I can overnight. I knew within 6 months of owning my H180 that I needed/wanted something bigger

That's part of my problem. I have 2 daughters and we normally bring one of their friends and family with us. 4 adults and 4 kids is a lot in an 18'

I have a 2001 180 Horizon with under 300 hrs, sun-sport seating, and the 4.3L. I bought it 5 summers ago for $10,500. I have since added a wakeboard tower, wakeboard racks, & a stereo with tower speakers & an amp. I feel like I got a great deal at the time and believe that I would ask around $12,000 for it if I were to sell it now. Hope this gives you something to relate to.

I added way more then that to my H180, and it brought the value up... none.

Adding custom parts to a boat is like adding custom parts to a car. They add zero value over market average.

I have. 03 180 with the 4.3 and almost always have 7 or 8 on it. With a full tank of gas and full cooler I can easily hit high 30's (per GPS) and get on plane easily. Yes I would like to upgrade to a 20 or 21, but very happy with my 180 and after all my "mods," I am not ready to part with it.
