Hey guys,i have a 06 180 horizon with the 3.0 merc. I bought the boat last year used, ran it probably 50 hours my first summer. At the end of the season the temperature gauge jumped up & down setting off the alarm causing me to stop. My local FW dealer said probably no big deal, wait till spring and install new impeller. Well this spring we summerized and replaced the impeller, dealer said I had a bad gasket with the impeller and the problem should be solved. On the first run of the summer same problems! I have also had problems with leaking trim fluid, as well as a loose altenator belt. I believe I have finally got the altenator tight enough, and that did seem to help the temp not being as sensitive. First, what else could be causing overheating? Second what to look for with the leaking trim fluid? Thanks for any help! I promise to post some pics, I have got a new(to me) 08 Liberty! Thanks again for looking at my post!

Are you saying the guage just instantly jumped to the overheat range, like within a second, or slowly moved up that warm over at least a few seconds?

It moves gradually and sometimes doesnt move at all above normal. The last day I had it out the alarm went off kinda before the temp got too hot. Arg! Where is the thermostat? Like one on a car? Thanks guys!
