1995 5.0 fuel injected 190 horizon. So I have a no start conditon, no crank either. I am thinking it is the starter solenoid on the top of the motor. Here are my readings at the solenoid as viewed from the front of the motor looking back. 2 large terminals, bottom one with big red wires has battery voltage all the time the top terminal has I think a yellow wire with red tracer and has no voltage on it ever. The small terminal on the right has bat voltage with the key in the on position and the terminal on the left has voltage when turning the key to the start position. Does this sound like a bad solenoid? No click sound from it either when trying to start. Can I just jump the 2 large terminals with the key in the on positon to make it crank? |

is the boat in neutral and the safety lanyard clipped in? |

Valid questions, yes I did check that the kill switch was attached and tried messing with the shifter to make sure it was in neutral. Fuel pump turns on and runs as it should also. |

There should be a big red button next to the engine, it's a master circuit breaker. Press it |

Did you check your ignition fuse? |

I would be careful how you jump the starter solenoid. Jumping across the two large terminals means a few hundred amps going to the starter motor and the likelihood of arcing and burning the threads on the terminals. If you are determined to do this I would put one end of a jumper cable on the (yellow/red) starter terminal (if possible) and then touch the other to the battery's positive post. Applying power should spin the starter and show whether the starter motor is OK. If the starter spins I would agree that the solenoid is bad. As an additional piece of info, last summer I could not get our boat (same model and engine) to start. It would crank but not fire. It turned out to be a bad in line fuse in the small power wire going from the "+" terminal of the battery to the engine computer. The fuse looked good, but the soldered cconnections inside the fuse itself were bad. Don't you just hate it when that kind of stuff happens?!!! |

I overlooked one simple thing, corroded connection at the battery. I guess it didnt allow enough current flow to turn the engine over but it did flow enough to run the radio and lights, minimal current. I cleaned all of the corrosion off and now it is fine. Thanks for the suggestions. Now on to my next issue exhaust flappers. |
