Post subject: | Quicksilver High Five Props |
Hey guys, I have been researching props the past few weeks and I am interested to see if anyone on here has any experience running a Quicksilver High Five SS prop? My boat is a 03 180 Horizon with the 4.3 Merc. The stock prop on the boat is a 13 1/2 X 23p and overall I am very happy with the performance. I am just looking for an improved holeshot while I am carrying a full load. After doing some research and doing a few prop selectors on different manufacturers websites this one has caught my eye, so I am just asking for your guys opinions. Right now I am thinking a 21p Quicksilver HF SS 21p. I know these prop threads are really overdone, but I really appreciate any recomendations and opinions since props aren't cheap, and I really want to make sure that I will be happy with my purchase! Thanks in advance! |

I'm about the only one here running the Hi-5. If you are happy with the overall performance of the 3bl 23P and still about 400 RPM or more below the top end of your WOT RPM throttle band, I would recommend getting the 23P in the 5 bl. If you are 200 RPM or less below the top end of the WOT RPM throttle band, I recommend you step up to a 25P (can you even get that pitch???). The smaller blade diameter lends to higher RPM for a given speed. I am running a 21P Hi-5 and get very similar top end/RPM as my 3 bl 19P. My 21P SS will turn about 5000-5100 RPM at 52 MPH (GPS) the 23P Hi 5 will do 5200 RPM at 50 MPH, but with much improved hole-shot. Both are with 4 peeps, full fuel. I also noticed, the more I load down, the Hi-5 is affected less. Fully loaded I can still hit 48 MPH at about 4800 RPM, whereas the 3 bl will only hit about 46 MPH. BTW... Midwest Propeller is the best price in the biz! |

I recently put one on mine, and absolutely love it. With the 5 L Merc, I lost maybe three mph according the the speedo, and my RPMs at WOT went from 4600 to about 5100. Not that I ever drive it like that, except for testing out the two props. The new prop is a 19 p, the factory one was a stainless 3 blade 21 p. Also, a buddy has one on his 18 ft boat with the 4.3. He has a 19 p and also loves it. I think he lost more top end than me, but he thought 21 p was too much for his boat. Some shops let you demo them, so you can buy both, test them out for the day, and return the one you don't like. |

Thank you for the replies guys! And Walt thanks for the link to the website. They definitetly do have better pricing on these. I am thinking of the 23p now after doing some more research. Like you said Walt the 5 blades seem to run higher rpm. For the money I would hate to purchase a 21p and have the boat running to high of rpm. And 210 SS thanks for the tip about the boat shops letting you test them out, I will look into that! |

I have the Hi5 19P on my 1998 Horizon Sunsport RS. I replaced a 3 blade 23P prop. Obviously does not have the same top end and stays in a higher rpm range, but the holeshot and pulling power is awesome for watersports. If you have trouble pulling a load, I wholeheartedly recommend these props. I went with the 19P on the 4.3 and I've never regretted it. |
