Post subject:  Anyone on here ever change an Idle Air Control??

Took my boat out Sat and at first it was idling rough then it wouldn't idle at all. It would just die. When I revved it up in neutral I could start it and get it into gear. When underway, it ran perfect.

Based on the Alarm and everything I have read online it sound like it is the Idle Air Control. Sounds like an easy enough fix, but I was curious if anyone on here has ever done it themselves.

I have 5.0 MPI Mercuriser I/O

Any input would be appreciated.

easy fix. did mine last year. i read somewhere that you can cross reference the part number at your local auto parts store and get the exact same thing.... except it's half the price of a "marine" one. you may have to get the right gasket from your local marine mechanic. the one that came with what i bought from auto zone had a gasket that was rubber and quite a bit thicker than the paper type original one. that's what i did and mine has been fine.

how would I go about finding out if one from an auto parts store would work and get the right one?

You need to verify visually, but it's AC Delco part # 2173217. Or just tell the parts counter dork you need a 2002 Ford Windstar idle air valve. Should be $45-55 bucks.

Very easy fix. Did it myself just a few weeks ago. Once you get the parts, it will take you no more than 30 minutes to replace it from start to finish. Here is my thread on this problem which includes a link to a another useful thread on replacing the IAC (as well as part numbers you will need):

Update: Switched out the IAC this weekend and it was the problem and was an easy fix. Thanks for all the help advice.
