Anyone know the size of the nut that is on the opposite side of those huge '1/2" alan head' bolts on FW Horizon towers? I know it is bigger than 7/8" cause thats the only deep well socket I currently own... The bolt diameter itself is probably closer to 5/8..., cause it will not slide through the hole in a 1/2" short socket... These bolts are tough to get to through the access compartments... you have to stick your whole arm in the access hole before you can feel it...

once I figure out the size, I think I will have to find a custom tool just for this job... I have a micrometer but there is no room to get it in there...

My gaskets between the fiberglass and tower have never been aligned properly so I want to fix them, and also make sure my tower has not loosened up over the years...

can't help you on your size but I will caution you about over tightening. They need to be able to flex a little, hence should have nyloc nuts on them, and not over torqued. Otherwise, you are transmitting all of that motion directly to the deck (reinforced, of course). The result is pre-mature cracking as mine had first season. FW fixed under warranty, but the outfit that did the repair and speciallizes in such with towers told me they shouldn't be too tight to make the whole thing rigid, and some sway is actually a good thing.

The advice given to me by my someone working for the dealer I bought from years ago was to tighten the bolt slowly until you start hear the first sign of a faint fiberglass cracking noise... basically, it means common sense... don't tighten it hard, it is delicate... but seriously, what else could you do... its hard to assign a perfect torque spec to this....

anyhow, I did answer my own question... I went to Sears and bought 2 deep well sockets past what I had on hand.... the nut on the other side ended up being 15/16"
