The loud shrill alarm that sounds when you turn the ignition key wont stop ringing. Normally it stops as soon as the engine turns over. Is this a warning of some other problem? I checked drive train fluid, it was low, so I filled it up, but the alarm still sounds the entire time I'm runnning the boat (very annoying!). Is there a way to de-activate it? or fix the alarm condition? |

There is an alarm for the temp. There is a sender on the engine sort of middle behind the alternator. Mine as the little speaker for the alarm under he helm. I unplugged it one time when I knew it was a false alarm. Black circle s what it looks like and hanging near the fuse panel. |

I did have mine go off once for overheat... newer VP engine/drive can detect this easily, but usually not immediately upon starting cold... it will have to get hot first... I suspect the alarm is going off for another reason... bad sensor, or maybe another problem... are all dash gauges within range after the start? |

All dash guages are within normal range. This alarm is the one that sounds when you first turn the ignition. I believe it is a safety alarm so people are clear from the prop area before it starts...? Normally it goes off right away when the engine starts. But for past 2 days it stays on the entire time the egine is running.. It still wont stop, so we are looking for ways to disconnect it.... I think the engine sensors for heat, oil pressure, etc, are intermittent beeps, is that correct? |

My overheat is a constant alarm and will not stop unless you turn the engine off. |

I was told by two different mechanics that the constant beep while the engine is running will happen for two reasons. Low drive oil, or engine overheat. If you have a Merc try disconnecting the sensor on the drive oil resevoir. I've heard they can get stuck and cause a false alarm. I would be concerned as to why the oil was low. Leaking maybe? |

More likely that's an alarm for low oil pressure - if it's the one that sounds every time you turn the key to "on", and stops as soon as the motor is started. If you've been able to run it for a while, it's got to be a problem with the sender rather than an oil pump failure. What year and engine do you have? Most of these have 2 OP circuits - one sets the alarm when the OP is below 4psi (that's the one in the engine compartment), and the other runs the gauge and/or idiot light on the dash. If you have the 4.3l or 5.7l, the OP sending unit is right on the top of the block and very easy to get to. Good luck. |

Hard to diagnose not knowing what boat, engine, drive the OP has. All just speculation at this point. |

Hey Gman did you ever figure out what the issue was and how to rectify the problem. I am having the same issue with my 2006 FW Horizon 190. Penta 4.3 engine as well. Any information would be greatly appreciated. If anyone else has any advice please let me know. |
