So I hooked up a new hour meter. Wired off the tach and ran the wires back to the battery and mounted the meter in the engine compartment.
I can turn on the acc switch and the depth finder reads good. With the engine running, the reading is all over the place. So, it seems the wires
are causing the problem. Anybody ever had this issue? Before I go and run the wires differently, I would like to know if this is the likely issue.
Thanks.

Just disconect the hour meter and see if it works right again. You may also find a loose wire by going over your work too.

Disconnected the hour meter with no effect. Started looking under the dash board where the depth finder was intalled and moved some of the wires
around. They were hanging over the tach and hour meter. Problem solved, so it was just electrical interference.
