just curious if anyone runs Tabs (Smarttabs, Electric, or Hydrolic) or a Hydrofoil.

If so, what are you using? And, did you notice a big difference?

Most of them will give you the hook of a lower pitched prop, but they also can cause different handling characteristics, some may be preferred, but some may not be. The hydros/tabs are kind of a interium fix for setup shortcommings you may have, as opposed to the hype they write on the package. This being said they are also inexpensive so if you want to try one and don't mind spending a few bucks they won't hurt anything...unless they cause a vibration, in which case remove it immediately!.

I have run Smart Tabs on 2 boats.

On my Stingray 180RS they made all the difference in the world. Got up out of the hole faster, planed at lower speeds and cured the porpoising problem that seems to be intrinsic to the smaller Stingrays. It made it a completely different boat.

On my FW HORIZON 180 the difference was not so drastic. It helped with porpoising, I can trim the motor up further without bouncing the front end. But it still is slow climbing out of the hole and it had no effect on planing speed.

All in all they were a worthwhile investment depending on what you're trying to fix/cure.

thanks guys! All things considered i'm running pretty solid. But was just curious about what kind of handling changes i could expect if i decided to go that route.

I'm happy with where she is, and i think i'll just leave it be.

thanks again for the input
