Post subject:  ENGINE CUTS OUT THEN KICKS BACK ON. OVER AND OVER

I HAVE A 1996 21 FT HORIZON, IT RAN GOOD ALL LAST YEAR WITH NO PROBLEMS. HOWEVER THIS YEAR THE MOTOR STARTED TO CUT OUT WHEN I GET ON ROUGH WATER. I REPLACED BOTH BATTERIES AND BUT A NEW ALTERNATOR ON IT AND IT STILL DOES IT. ANY IDEAS ON WHAT ELSE IT COULD BE?

THE MOTOR SHUTS OF COMPLETLY AND MY VOLTAGE GAUGE STARTS TO GO DOWN THEN IT KICKS RIGHT BACK ON AND THEN WILL DO IT AGAIN. NO MATTER WHAT SPEED YOU ARE AT.

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT.

Does it cut off and when you look down the voltage gauge is dropping or does it drop then cut off? I say its in the ignition circuit, whether it be the switch itself, main fuse box (bad fuse bumping open/close), or if its EFI could be the PCM.

TXJOLE,

WHEN I LOOK DOWN AFTER HITTING THE WINDSHIELD WITH MY FACE THE VOLTAGE IS DOWN THEN IT KICKS RIGHT BACK ON.

I HOPE I DONT SOUND STUPID BUT WHAT IS AND WHERE IS THE PCM & EFI LOCATED?

I WILL REPLACE THE IGNITION FUSE AND TRY IT.

THANK YOU.

YES IT IS EFI HOWEVER WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY PCM?

Power Control Module. or brain. The reason I ask about looking down to see the voltage meter drop. When the engine dies the meter will drop. It could be a bad fuel sending unit making the engine stall. If you are running and you notice the meter drop THEN the engine stall I would say its ignition. But stall then drop could be anything. But start at the basics, (fuel and spark)

Don't overlook the obvious. I had a similar situation where the motor would not start at times, and then other times it started the first try. It turned out that the kill switch was the culprit. Make sure that the switch is not the issue before going through expensive repairs.

I really appreciate everyones help and advice. I am going to go home tonight and bypass my kill switch as well as check all of my fuses and replace the ignition ones just in case. I am also going to put a new water fuel seperator in it just to make sure is not sucking water into the carbs instead of fuel when water gets rough.

I will keep you guys posted.

Thanks,

THE PROBLEM IS FIXED................

It was a loose ignition wire under the dash.

Thank all of you for your help.
