I'm considering buying a 2000 Horizon 260. The seats are really weathered. I was wondering if anyone has been able to order factory skins for these seats from Four Winns or what it might cost to have the interior of a 260 completely reupholstered. Thanks for your help in advance.

I would set aside around $2000-$3000 depending on materials you want to use. |

Not a bad estimate. It's also quite unlikely you will get any seat skins from Four Winns for a 12 year old boat. It will have to be a custom job by a local upholsterer, or yourself if you are adept as a seamstress. |

It can be worth the effort if you get the boat 2-3k lower then market average, then in the end you have a boat with new interior. Personally I stay away from "project" boats. If they can't take care of the interior, imagine the drivetrain. |

Thanks for the feedback! I can get a 2000 Four Winns Horizon 260 w/5.7GSi Duoprop with full canvas, trailer, and 377 hours for $9.5k. Here are pictures - http://www.flickr.com/photos/53118973@N ... 571820858/ $9.5 + $3k would put me at $12.5k into it. Nada Average is $14k for the boat without options or trailer...but I've rarely seen boats sell at Nada Value. It seems like a lot of boat for $12k. |

Just saw the pics... That boat is due for the scrapyard. It would take 5-8k in repair/reconditioning to bring it back to decent condition. |

What are you thinking it would need in addition to the vinyl? I was thinking: Bottom Paint - $1k Buff & WetSand - $500 New interior - $3k |

Remove bottom paint, wetsand, buff... $1000-$1500 New emblems, vinyl graphics $1000 New interior $3k Re-surface outdrive $500ish maybe more Probably new manifolds/risers, that boat is a salty. $1200 Because it was a salty, new bellow and gimble bearing $500 New fluids $100 New seat posts $300 Replace all sun damaged or rusted faded/brittle pieces everywhere... $500 The radio and speakers are probably old crap.. $300 New bearings in trailer and replace any rusted hardware $200 And before all that, first have it inspected (hull, transom, outdrive, engine, etc) before purchase.. Roughly $350 to make sure it's mechanically sound and worth the effort. By the time you're all said and done and spent all summer making it pretty... you'd have spent what it costs to buy one that's already nice and spent all summer on the water, not working in the driveway or paying a mechanic. |

Yeah, that was the other thing that I was concerned about. It seems like it'd be kind of a dog with the 5.7. What's a reasonable price for this? I might low ball the guy... He said it would do 45 mph and cruise at 25 mph w/bottom paint and the 5.7. |

I'd tell him you have 8k cash in hand after an inspection that you'll pay for as long as the hull/deck is solid and the drivetrain is good. All fixed up you could probably get 13-15k for it. To be honest, a good scrub down with a good bathroom cleaner will make that boat look REALLY good. I was happy with my 3.0 H180 on a small lake for a year, it cruised at 25 and top speed around 40. Took it to a big river two times and sold it due to getting passed by pontoon boats and every other thing ever made that floats with an engine. I won't buy anything now that doesn't do 30-35mph cruise and tops out in the 50's. |

Yeah, the slow cruise is definitely a concern of mine. I just sold my Horizon 180 w/3.0L b/c it's too small and slow. I might make the seller a low ball offer and find a canvas shop to do the interior over the winter. The other option I'm considering is a 2000 Cobalt 226 that took on water with a new motor and electronics. I can get that one for $10,500 but am concerned about unseen water damage. I don't want to spend more than $10k right now. Any ideas where to find a good Horizon 220 or 240 with a 5.7 or 7.4 for that kind of money? |

Low ball him. There's point to where if he took 6-8k it would be worth the effort as long as it's just cosmetics. 75% of that will clean up like almost new and you can do what I did on my boat. I just had the vinyl shop replace the vinyl that was bad. The gray was just like that, faded to brown. The shop replaced all my brown faded sections and fixed all my loose stitching for $250 and I took the pieces to him, not the whole boat. Boat looked brand new. It was doomed for failure in the next year or 2 but it sold good looking all spiffy  This works miracles:
