Hello Everyone,

I am new here, I have been working on this boat for a while now, long story I had to replace the carb and distributor do to the fact 2 marine mechanics
do not know what they were doing. I purchased a new Holley carb but it's a 300CFM not a 350CFM which came with the engine, I can deal with that and change the
jets on the carb. my problem is I can only get 3500 RPM at WOT and 35-37MPR at most (GPS). the prop that's on the boat is a 14 -1/4 x 19P I don't know if that is the correct
one that came with the boat. I have to confirm if the tach is reading correctly, but if I am going only 35-37mpr I would say it's reading right.

I am going to change the jets next weekend but if I cannot get 4500-4800 at WOT which I think that's where I should be what prop size would I get to increase my RPM but as well
increase my speed.

Thanks

Steve

I have been sort of having the same problem I can't seem to get above 4000-4100 rpms. I have three props a 17, 19, and a 21p. Doesn't matter which prop I run I can't seem to break 4000rpms. I have talked to a couple different people and they seem to think I am running out of gas. I am going to change my jets also and give it another run. I will let you know how it turns out.

While you are troubleshooting you may want to look at the exhaust flapper valves, if you haven't already. My '95 190H with the 5.0 EFI had this problem early on. I lost at least 600 rpm and approx 12 mph on top end. The one flapper valve came loose and lodged in the area of the transom creating a partial exhaust blockage. If your boat operated OK at one time with the engine - prop combination then something is a miss. Back in my mechanic days I encountered more than one time where the "obvious" was not the problem. Good luck.

Hi Surface Interval,

I have checked when I took the heads off, The flappers are off from the previous owner, by changing the jets from 61 to 64 I gained 5mp and RPM went up to just under 4000.

So it seems I was running out of fuel to the engine. I have to find out how far up in size I can go. the old carb had size 67 jets. I know this all depends on the carb.

problem is you cannot find the old 350cfm carb anymore as well as the old distributor. so allot of trial and errors.

At least its going in the right direction.

I have a new prop coming as well, 4 blade 20p.
