I am looking at a 2005 24ft horizon with a 5.0l Volvo for $18,000. No trailer. 246 hours. Nice boat but the 5.0 worries me. I boat in cental NJ in salt water. Will run from Sandy Hook up to the Hudson occasionally but modtly Shrewsberry and Navasink Rivers. How does the boat handle moderate chop? Is the 5.0 enough? Had a 298 Vista a few years back with twin Merc 5.0's but too much boat for us. Never had engine problems but we had pleanty of wet rides!

As well it should. You really want a 5.7 in that boat.

Very rare boat..... There is reason for it.... Walk away..... We had a Horizon 240 with VP 5.7 SX (single prop) and did not work for us.... 240 needs a 5.7 with dual prop

No. Big bowriders require big blocks and dual props. Don't even consider it.

Thanks for your responses. It is a dual prop but still a 5.0 I was surprised to see a 5.0 single prop for sale when I was looking around. Still need 5.7 or more? I am planning a sea trial this week and will have my hand held gps to check the speed. Is it speed that is the determinant or is it more about not performing when loaded up. BTW it is a 2006 240H now at $16,000.

Take your whole family for that sea trial...........total weight will show you how it performs.......

Try to sea trial a 5.7 powered boat before purchasing.........

Thanks for the replies-

I have about 750-800 lbs of human ballast lined up for the sea trial and a hand held gps. Will post the results.
