Recently I've noticed that when I raise my engine cover (electric), my radio cuts out as soon as I hit the switch, and comes back on a second or two after I stop. I'm assuming it's because of the draw of the motor, but I don't recall that ever happening before so am thinking it may be a a grounding or other connectivity issue.... Any thoughts? Thanks! Erik |

It may be that the motor draws a lot of current and if there is any corrosion in the terminals for it or the batteries it will drop the system voltage enough to make that happen. I used to get this with the trim system on my '88 OMC Cobra, when I would trim the voltmeter on the dash would drop and the engine would stutter as the ignition was being starved for voltage. That was cured by all new battery cables and cleaning all the terminals for the trim relays. |

I had A lot of electrical problems that were traced to loose grounds on the back of my starboard side cylinder head |

Usually on these engines the battery negatives connect to a stud on the bell housing; hard to see behind the exhaust system. If you have wingnuts on your battery terminals get rid of then they get loose and cause problems. Use locking nuts or bolt on marine grade battery clamps and use the large posts. That’s what I do, no problems in over 15 years. |
